Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs occur when a hair that has been removed curls back down or grows sideways into the skin.
What is it?
Ingrown hairs occur when a hair that has been removed curls back down or grows sideways into the skin. We prefer to call these hairs "ingrowing" hairs because you can see the hair under your skin. Then there are those hairs that just get "stuck" in a plug of dead skin cells and oil and become a black head, and these are easier to remove.
How is it caused?
Some people are predisposed to them but this frustrating condition can also be caused when skin isn't prepped before or after shaving, waxing or other hair removal methods.
How do you prevent?
Exfoliate your skin gently before shaving, waxing or removing hair. Keep follicles debris and bacteria free by using Queen Bee's custom formulated "Buzz off Bumps" pads. Each pre-soaked and double-sided pad contains enough dead skin stripping and bacteria busting ingredients to get skin ready for all types of hair removal. Wearing tight pants that don't allow your skin to breathe can also contribute to trapped hairs, so try to avoid wearing these all of the time. It's also very important to wipe any sweat off of your skin after a workout, so keep your Buzz off Bumps ingrown hair fighting pads with you in your gym bag! If you are shaving use a sharp, single blade razor and never a dull blade. Warm the skin before you shave. Prep skin with Buzz off Bumps pads before you shave, enabling a smoother and cleaner process. Again, you must keep follicles and pores completely clear of excess oils, dead skin and dirt if you want your hairs to grow back up free of debris!
How do you treat?
Ensure you exfoliate your skin every day and focus on areas where ingrown hairs can appear such as the back of legs, bikini areas, underarms, chins and bottoms. We recommend using a dry brush on the whole body (gently) followed by our Buzz off Bumps treatment pads that ensure skin is clean, fresh and follicles are dirt free. If your ingrown hairs become inflamed or painful, use a warm compress for 3-5 minutes and allow your skin to breathe for a while. Don't pick as you could cause a painful bump to become infected and if they do, you may end up on antibiotics. Remember, prevention is better than cure!
